this is exactly the same thing Billy Martin (nee Poppy Z Brite, and he’s fine with people referring to his pre-transition name) said about his vampires (the main book is called Lost Souls and there are a few others in the same setting) before he transitioned. there’s definitely a commonality here with writers of vampire fiction
