i have actually never seen a prison/police abolitionist give a reasonable alternative for domestic violence victims, not even once :|

i know this is kind of flippant and im not trying to rag on u too hard but the idea that dv victims need to be ready to kill someone if they want the abuse to stop is fucking insane
why cant we all collectively kill them though. like a woman led group for each town to eliminate every abuser or predator
good idea we could give them uniforms too and government funding, training an assessment of some kind before they begin work since obviously theyll have access to guns. maybe we could give these ladies some kind of holding facility for the men they catch too and have a system in place to look at the evidence and judge if theyre guilty or not. also i think it would be a good idea if there was a number u could call if u needed them to show up and they had specially marked vehicles so ppl knew to get out of their way. the number would have to be really short though so everyone could remember it.

also like, as somebody who’s survived abuse, the very last thing you would ever want is for your abuser to think that they’ll be killed if you ever gained enough freedom to call what you experienced abuse. Like a lot if not most emotional abuse is about getting something petty or protecting a frail ego have having to deal with blame. Do you understand what a competent manipulator, the kind of person who engages in emotional abuse to avoid having to say “i’m sorry, I was wrong” would do if they felt that their life was on the line? Do you understand that abuse frequently deputizes victims into perpetuating their own victimhood, and that hurting the abuser will frequently require going through their victim to get to them?
I’m informed that more severe penalties also make it much likelier an abuser will kill their victim to prevent them from reporting it. I don’t remember who it was who said it but I know @the-real-seebs has reblogged things to that effect before.
I don’t remember details about the stats but intuitively it sounds likely.
I knew a domestic abuser once! 18-year-old who used to beat up his little sister. Still lived with the abusive parents who made them like tihs. They were in a country where it would have killed one or both of them to call the police, so that wasn’t an option, and he was miserable and hated himself about it, so I started with “here’s things you can say to her when you’re not mad that will mitigate the harm”, and then “here’s ways to try to avoid this”, and last I heard they had resolved things and the violence was a thing of the past.
Long story short: She was desperate for attention and was picking fights with her older brother because it was the only way she knew to get attention, he was lashing out because he was incredibly stressed and couldn’t handle it. Part of the solution was setting aside time to hang out together.
And you can say “it would be better if this bad person died” but I think his little sister, left all alone with only the abusive parents, wouldn’t have shared this view.
Also, like. I just want to call out the insanity of “a woman led group for each town to eliminate every abuser or predator”. You do realize, don’t you, that the people who want to lead those would mostly be the abusers and predators, right? Being loudly against abuse is one of the tactics that most abusers will come to very early in their careers. Women are not immune to being abusers and predators, and groups that are structured around killing people are pretty much catnip for predators. DARVO, remember? Best way to keep your abuse from getting noticed is to accuse the victim of being an abuser and get the abuser-killing group to kill them for you.

I’ve seen pro-prison/pro-death penalty, pro-prison/anti-death penalty, and anti-prison/anti-death penalty. Those commenters up there is the first time I’ve ever seen anti-prison/pro-death penalty.
