What does that even mean? PDF as in Portable Document Format?

you left out the best part of that article. the poor yahoo emplyees at those meetings were just as confused as the rest of us.
Speaking as someone who has been on this hellsite and loved it since before a lot of y’all were born, Tumblr is worth protecting.
Goncharov and the Legend of Neil Gaiman could not happen anywhere else online, to pick two recent examples of Tumblr heritage in progress, and I presume anyone reading this loves that VERY specific brand of fun, clever, commitment to the bit the same way I do.
I don’t think that happens anywhere else online. And that tells me that no matter who owns Tumblr, it’s the people and the microcommunities we’ve all built who make this a worthwhile hellsite to support and protect.
I wonder what it would look like today if, back when Yahoo bought it, literally anyone there understood this, and worked to nurture it.
But I’ll happily take the answer to “what the hell did Marissa Mayer think PDF was?” as a consolation prize.
