aesthetic of the day is when you’re usually pretty good at picking up meanings of words from context, but you look one of them up that you’re not sure about and not only is it not what you expected, it also describes you
An Update on Mature Content Handling on iOS and Web
We’re rolling out enhanced automated detection of mature content on Tumblr for the iOS app and web, following the measures we launched on Android earlier this year.
What’s Changing Our systems now better identify posts and blogs that may contain mature content. Posts that are flagged or labeled as mature could now be blurred depending on your mature content settings, and we’ll show a banner if content is filtered from search results based on your settings. Content from blogs you follow won’t be additionally filtered. Creators can appeal if their content is misclassified.
Why We’re Doing This These updates help make Tumblr safer and more consistent for everyone. They will help protect users, especially younger audiences or anyone else who prefers not to see this content.
Who Is Affected All Tumblr users on iOS and web are now impacted by these changes.
Adjusting Your Experience You are still in control of what content you see on Tumblr, and you can customize it in settings:
Enable “show mature content” in your settings under Content you see.
Review your blog visibility settings to see if your blog has been flagged as mature, which also provides a shortcut to appeal if needed.

—THIS ALGORITHM IS BROKEN. It’s flagging women’s faces: just simple neck-up photos. All a post needs to get flagged is for a woman to be in it.
—WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO EXPLAIN WHEN PROMPTED BY THE APPEAL PROCESS? (Not a rhetorical question.) WHAT WILL ACTUALLY BE CONSTRUCTIVE? I don’t know what to explain or clarify when the algorithm gives no clue why it flagged a post. I’ve just been replying with a description of the photo and stating that there is no nudity or sexually suggestive content.
—THERE’S NO WAY TO OBJECTIVELY APPLY THE “MATURE” CONTENT LABEL BECAUSE IT’S BASED ON SUBJECTIVE CRITERIA. It’s specifically for posts that have no objective characteristics to further classify them. (https://help.tumblr.com/knowledge-base/content-labels/) How are we supposed to explain anything to the person (or thing) reading the appeal when the reviewer also has no objective criteria to apply a content label.
—Are humans reading these secondary appeals? Also why have these posts gone directly to secondary appeals?
—YOUR ALERT AND REVIEW TOOLS ARE BROKEN. There’ve been no alerts that my posts have been flagged in the Activity feed or by email. I can’t even see that they’re marked on the iOS app. There’s also nothing under “Review Flagged Posts” in the iOS app Account tab. A banner appears above a post in the App only after I appeal it through a browser. The only way I’ve been able to see which posts have been flagged is using a browser and scrolling through my entire blog. I have about 4000+ original posts. Maybe a quarter of my posts are flagged so far (and I’m a SFW vintage and fan blog). It’s too much to go through.
—THIS IS WORSE THAN THE LAST MASS CONTENT BAN: Last time, the definition of s mature post was very precise and had objective criteria for users and reviewers to consider. We got emails with links to the flagged posts and they were also clearly marked in the app. We also had a functioning review page for appealing posts.
I CAN’T CONTINUE TO POST IF WE DON’T GET ADDITIONAL TOOLS, EXPLANATIONS AND ASSURANCES ADDRESSING THESE ISSUES.

reminding all of my american followers to vote today!
local elections are just as important as presidential ones, and they’re going to be key in mitigating all this damage
also it’s not a test. they let you google names in the poll booth.
you see this was a common sentiment when it was kamala vs trump
yes, almost all politicians are shitty. but believe me when i say that on your local ballot today, there will be one guy who you’d MUCH rather be mayor than the other
Something they never tell you about being an adult is the power of just being The Person Who Reliably Shows Up. Even if you don’t think you have much to bring to the table except being kind to people, wanting to learn, and contributing when you can. Many of the good things that have happened to me and many of the connections I’ve made have been because I just kept showing up and people were like, whelp, I guess we can’t get rid of your ass and now you’re a load bearing part of the community
