This post is kind of funny for a bunch of different reasons.
First, a floating data center shouldn’t pollute the water. It might warm it a bit, and there are certainly issues with that, but probably not enough to effect things overall.
Second, where do you think all this hardware goes, from a normal datacenter, when they’re done with it? It often gets trashed, and dumped in the ocean! If we want to keep the oceans clean, we need to stop dumping garbage into it, not focusing on putting functional systems out there.
Third, the image is kind of adorable with it’s tiny little solar farm that it implies is somehow powering this monstrosity! These data centers use more power than a small town! If we could power them by putting a few solar cells on the roof, that would solve 90% of the problems they pose in the first place!
So, what we’ve got is literal fantasy technology that can’t possibly work making environmentally engaged people cry ‘Don’t put that where we dump our garbage!’.
This is troll bait. Just don’t worry about it. If we could make this, it implies the heat from the system is the primary problem, and if that were the case we could just cool it with unicorn blood anyway.
